Beyond L is an online one-on-one Japanese lesson platform operated by Atelier C Inc. We connect Japanese learners around the world with professional teachers who hold Japanese-teaching qualifications and hands-on experience, through 25-minute online lessons.
Make sure your teacher is the right fit — before you commit
Every journey on Beyond L starts with a ¥1,000 trial lesson. Through a level check and learning consultation, you can confirm the fit with your teacher and the days and times that work for you — then purchase a 25-min × 10-lesson course. Each course's content and price (¥10,000–50,000) is designed by the teacher, based on their own expertise.
Only vetted professionals — and you can learn in your language
Every teacher on Beyond L holds an official Japanese-teaching qualification (or equivalent) and has real teaching experience. Each one is individually vetted through document screening and an interview. Many teachers also support languages beyond Japanese — English, Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, and more. Explanations in your language, practice in Japanese — so even beginners can start with confidence. From business Japanese and JLPT prep to lessons for kids and specialized Japanese for nursing and caregiving, you can find a teacher who fits both your goal and your language.
Learning made easier, by design
No app required — lessons run right in your browser. The lesson screen includes an interactive board for quizzes and materials, and a learning record (karte) is kept after every lesson, so you can see your progress build up. The site supports 15 languages, and you can search for teachers in yours.
Rules that make it safe to keep going
Courses are valid for 6 months from purchase. Within that period, you can cancel anytime and receive a refund for unused lessons (minus a small processing fee). Payments are processed securely through Stripe.
